A Cooperatively-Owned, Community-Controlled Grocery Store in Cherry Hill

The Cherry Hill Food Co-op will be a grocery store owned and operated by the residents of Cherry Hill for the benefit of our community. Our principles are based on the importance of Black land ownership and food sovereignty. The store will provide us with quality food options with our members determining the type of food and its price.

For the past 15 years the Cherry Hill Community has been without a major grocery store. For the past 40 years, the Baltimore community has been without a major community owned enterprise. The Cherry Hill Food Co-op is being formed to improve access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate foods and will regenerate and maintain resources in South Baltimore. It will increase the amount of healthy foods available and provide opportunities for volunteerism, sustainable income, and business ownership for Cherry Hill residents.

Community Governance

The people who work and shop at the Co-op will be its owners. Together, we will democratically determine how it is run, ensuring that all key decisions will be made by and for community members.

Healthy and Affordable Food

Living in an area that doesn’t offer healthy and affordable food harms our community. This market will provide access to real, nutritious food, making our community healthier and stronger.

Financial Independence

The Food Co-op will benefit our economy by sourcing products locally, creating jobs, providing space for local entrepreneurs and training members in sustainable business development.

By The People,

For The People

The Co-op offers opportunity for the community to have access to fresh food while building wealth on own terms.
